I'm so excited the BSO's Opening Night is finally here!

Saturday night's concert features a terrific program of music inspired by America that promises to get our season off to a spectacular start! Our featured work will be Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 From the New World. Dvorak came to America to teach at a new conservatory in NY city. During the two years he spent in America, he composed some of his greatest works - his Cello Concerto, the American String Quartet, and the famous New World Symphony. It's a work filled with great melodies, vibrant rhythms, rich orchestral color and more than a hint of nostalgia. As much as Dvorak enjoyed his time in America, he was terribly homesick for his native Bohemia.[...]

The Brevard Symphony Orchestra Opens the 2014-2015 Concert Season

Dvořák’s thrilling New World Symphony highlights the Brevard Symphony Orchestra’s 2014-2015 season opener on Saturday, October 25th at the King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne. In celebration of the Star Spangled Banner’s 200th Anniversary in 2014, this American-inspired season-opener will begin with Dudley Buck’s Festival Overture on the American National Air. Following this tribute to the National Anthem, American composer Howard Hanson’s Piano Concerto will be played by featured pianist and Hanson Scholar, Scott Watkins. The concert closes with Antonín Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 in E minor – From the New World.[...]

Spend Sunday with the Symphony!

Music lovers of all ages are invited to spend “Sunday with the Symphony” on Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in West Melbourne. Presented by the Brevard Symphony Orchestra, this fun, family-friendly, event will feature live music from BSO musicians and an opportunity to meet Music Director and Principal Conductor, Christopher Confessore. As a special treat, the Orchestra will also give the first 50 guests, ages 18 and up, a voucher good for one free ticket to an upcoming BSO concert.
