DESCRIPTION:About The Performance\nJoin violinist Amy Xaychaleune and her band for a night of charm and enchantment as they bring Disney and popular hits to life. Concert is approximately 67 minutes long and has a 15-minute intermission. \nAbout The Musicians\nAmy Xaychaleune\, leader\, violin\, arranger\nAmy Xaychaleune is a violinist born & raised in Orlando. She received her Master of Music\nPerformance from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and her Bachelor of Music Performance\nfrom Florida State University. Some past career highlights include performing with Michael\nBublé\, Sting\, the Evita Broadway Tour\, and at The White House. Currently she plays for Brevard\nSymphony Orchestra and Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra\, at Disney World\, with several\ncompanies throughout Florida\, and for her own company – Sunshine Time Productions. \nJohn Mason III\, piano\nAn Orlando native\, John has been involved in music his whole life. He has a BA in Pipe Organ\nPerformance from Florida State University\, and an MA in Choral Conducting from the University\nof Central Florida. He has worked as a church organist\, musician\, and music director for several\nlocal churches\, and currently works as the Director of Children’s and Instrumental Music at St\nLuke’s UMC. He currently performs in various roles at Disney\, including playing piano and keys\non stage in Epcot. He enjoys composing and arranging orchestrations for all instruments. In his\nfree time\, you can find him woodworking and spending time with his wife and two sweet\ndaughters.\nLuis Guerrero\, guitar\nLuis Guerrero is a guitar player based in Orlando\, Florida. He received his bachelor’s degree in\nJazz Studies from the University of Central Florida. He has over two decades of performing\nexperience\, including theme park entertainment\, stadium performances\, musical theater\,\nfestivals\, orchestras\, big bands\, corporate events\, and more. He has played with big acts like IL\nDIVO and Broadway singers such as Mandy Gonzales\, Michael James Scott and many more. He\nis featured in the Disney+ show Harmonious Live. \nMike Scialabba\, drums\nMichael Scialabba\, a Winter Park High School and University of Florida graduate\, boasts over 30\nyears at Walt Disney World as a musician\, show designer\, and team leader. A specialist in\nthemed entertainment\, he has contributed to international Disney projects in Tokyo and Paris\nand also performed for many years with the Blue Man Group. With a master’s degree in\nOrganizational Leadership\, Michael is the Vice President of the Central Florida Musicians’\nUnion\, AFM Local 389\, and a strong advocate for fair working conditions and workers’ rights.\nNathan May\, bass\nNathan May is an Orlando-based musician who regularly performs across Florida on electric\nbass and double bass. He is a member of many original music ensembles as a bassist with\npower-pop band Fast Preacher\, soul artist John Lee Wyatt\, and modern-folk artist John Dorney.\nHe is the music director for the jazz-folk songwriter Megan Shea\, and composes and releases\nhis own music under the name Cafetorium. He has performed as a section bassist in the\nOrlando Philharmonic Orchestra\, Villages Philharmonic\, Gainesville Symphony\, and is principal\nbass of the Daytona Soloisti Chamber Orchestra.\n\nTickets\nTickets are $25 each and Subscriptions to the full Summer Evenings Series are $60. $10 student tickets with valid student I.D. are available at the door only. \n \n

This concert is presented at 7:30PM at the King Center for the Performing Arts.  \nFor the Love of Beethoven \nBy Dr. Richard Weber \nImagine that you were just born – in the year 1770. When you are 6 years old\, the American colonies ignite a fire in Western civilization with the revolutionary affirmation that\, “…all men are created equal\, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights…Life\, Liberty\, and the Pursuit of Happiness…” The irrepressible clamor for personal freedom\, leading to the French Revolution\, dominates your formative years. In addition\, imagine as a youth you blossom with musical prowess\, with talent for melody\, harmony\, rhythm\, and form. You pursue your passion\, music. Then imagine that you realize\, at the age of 27\, that you – a MUSICIAN – are experiencing progressive hearing loss. And now you\, the reader\, might imagine how Ludwig van Beethoven\, born in 1770\, wrestled with life itself. \nThe music of Ludwig van Beethoven has always resonated with me (sorry…I couldn’t resist). In my mind\, there’s no one in musical history that even comes close. Can I explain why? It’s not easy to put it in words. Albert Einstein said\, “You do not really understand something unless you can explain it to your grandmother.” So\, Einstein\, I’ll try to put this in words: Let’s see if I understand it. Given the extraordinary circumstances I described above\, Beethoven’s music could have been tragic\, even morose. But no: Beethoven and his music have everything to do with OVERCOMING life’s trials. Consider the structure of his music as a metaphor for how we might strive to deal with the tremendous challenges we all face on this earth. We start with a basic theme\, our place in the world. We undergo development as we grow. Periods of joy\, beauty\, and playfulness transpire. Along the way our original theme\, our core\, becomes forgotten or buried. In anguish\, we struggle to move forward. Finally\, with power and assertion\, our essence reemerges as we recapture our ethos with even greater ascendancy. The heroic journey and its finale proclaim faith in the power of man to shape his destiny. \nFor a more unpretentious approach to my love of Beethoven\, let me describe my experience when the BSO performs one of his works. I bob my head to the music like I do when listening to the Beatles; tap my foot to the beat like I do when listening to the Eagles; bask in triumph like I do after watching Bruce Willis in one of the Die Hard movies; and walk to my car after the performance humming what I’d just heard as I would after a Randy Travis concert. So…I trust either the down to earth picture I painted of my concert experience or my intellectual analysis – hopefully both – strike a chord with you. In fact\, when you listen to Beethoven tonight\, the relentless rhythm\, surging emotion\, and inexorable drive speak for themselves. With Beethoven\, you don’t have to think about it. He simply lays it all out for you in his work so all you do is sit back and take it in.
